Q: Hi! Could you introduce yourself to us?

A: Hi! My name is Lucas Storm and I’m from Fenton, Mich. I’m a sophomore at Alma College, majoring in marketing.

Q: Could you tell us a little more about that? I understand you recently changed your major.

A: Alma College just announced its new marketing major, and I signed up for it as soon as I could. Previously, I was majoring in business, which is similar, but different. I know that when I graduate from college, I want to pursue a career in sales, and while I think that a business degree would help me to do that, I know that this new major will help me even more.

Q: Is there anything in particular that excites you about this new major?

A: Well, I was speaking with the chair of the business department, Andy Singer, when I decided this is what I wanted to do. Professor Singer told me about some of the classes I’d be taking; like branding, marketing management and professional selling. I’m also just excited to learn under him. He’s a great guy. I started my own landscaping business this past summer and went to him for advice. He has no problem making time for his students.

Q: That’s a common thread among many conversations that I have with students — Alma College faculty take the time to get to know them.

A: That’s actually a big reason why I came here in the first place. The class sizes are a little smaller — maybe 15 students in each class — than you’ll find at the big state schools. Your professor knows you by name and if you need help, you can always get in touch with them. Some professors even give you their cell phone number in case you want to text with them.

Q: I understand you’re also involved in athletics, right?

A: I play on the men’s lacrosse team; my family comes up to watch me play sometimes, which is nice. It’s a great group of guys. Right now, we’re playing “fall ball” — lacrosse is a spring sport, but a few times a week, we get together to work on our stick work and shooting. I’m looking forward to when the Hatcher Athletics Campus opens up in the fall 2025; it’ll be a great place for us to practice. I’m also involved in the Fellowship for Christian Athletes, which is a great way to build bonds with other student-athletes across campus.

Q: Are you involved in any other extracurricular activities?

A: I’m a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) fraternity, which is another great group of guys. I didn’t see myself joining a fraternity when I came to college — you see all the movies and you think it’s just a joke — but we do really great work together. Last year, we were named the top TKE chapter nationwide for fundraising for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and that means a lot to me. I wear a St. Jude wristband to help me keep things in perspective.
