POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sports Medicine Tech is a temporary 10-month position. The position will assist the athletic training staff in day-to-day functions including injury prevention, recognition, evaluation, appropriate medical referral, treatment and rehabilitation for the student athletes of the Alma College Athletics Department. Alma College is a NCAA Division III institution and a member of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA). Free housing included (non-student apartment).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: – may include, but not limited to the following:
- Assist athletic training staff with daily athletic training room operations. This includes but is not limited to welcoming patients, monitoring prescribed therapeutic exercise, cleaning, documentation, and assisting with demonstration or application of recovery modalities such as foam rolling, NormaTec Compression Therapy, or GameReady Cold Compression.
• Assist with competition and practice coverage as needed. This includes but is not limited to field/court set up/tear down, taping, wound care and hydration assistance.
• Assist with audit and organization of student athlete online medical records including annual physicals, Sickle Cell Status, Insurance, Secondary Insurance Claims, and Concussion Baseline Testing.
• Work alongside athletic training students from CAATE Accredited Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) from Central Michigan University.
• Maintain correspondence and cooperation with campus community members, coaches, and MyMichigan Medical staff.
• Additional duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, or other premedical field of study.
• Current First Aid/CPR/AED for the ProfessionalRescuer.
• Ability to communicate effectively to various groups and individuals.
• A valid driver’s license and good driving record.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to fulfil essential functions of the position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Entry level experience with collegiate athletic training department.
• NATA BOC certification.
• Ability to work weekends and evenings PRN.
• Experience in a residential campus environment.
• Knowledge of NCAA Division III and MIAA compliance and conference rules, and an understanding of the NCAA Division III student athlete philosophy.
• Experience working with underrepresented, first-generation, Pell-eligible, and diverse populations.
