ALMA — One of the Alma College Diversity and Inclusion Office’s most-beloved annual events, Fiesta Baile, is set to take place Sunday, Sept. 22.

The event, which is co-hosted by the college’s Latinos Unidos organization (formerly Hispanic Coalition), is slated for 4 to 7 p.m. at the Tyler-Van Dusen Campus Center. Fiesta Baile made its return last year after a brief hiatus, and organizers said the public was happy to have it back.

“Fiesta Baile offers our campus community, as well as the greater Gratiot County area, a chance to come together and celebrate Latine culture through music, food and dance,” said Jonathan Glenn, director of the Diversity and Inclusion Office. “We’ve been able to see how well our hometown communities respond when given the opportunity to learn more about the rich, significant Hispanic cultural heritage.”

Fiesta Baile, which translates from Spanish as “dance party,” will feature painting with artist Omar Cruz, Zumba, live music, food, children’s arts and crafts, a reading area and bachata dance lessons. Alma College’s dining partner, Metz, will provide food with Latine influences.

Fiesta Baile is held at Alma College in September to commemorate National Hispanic American Heritage Month, which takes place from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 annually. The event is free and open to the public.
