Clear, purposeful writing is vital to every discipline.
The writing minor will empower you to write purposefully across a broad spectrum of contexts and genres. And, since writing is key to almost every professional practice, this minor pairs well with nearly every major Alma offers.
As a writing minor, you’ll be encouraged to select an academic pathway that reflects your interests. Our tracks — which include business writing, creative writing, journalism and media and academic writing — are designed to align our curriculum to the professional, disciplinary or creative field you wish to focus on.
What You Need to Know
Writing is a core, transferable skill applicable to many different roles. If you want to write for a living, this program can provide the foundation to break into publishing, land a grant or technical writing position or build a future in journalism.
In addition, writing can be the ideal launchpad for work in public relations, communications or marketing. In reality, however, the applications of this minor are endless. Our students pursue fulfilling careers in law, business, teaching, scientific research and more.
