Act, direct and design.
Our curriculum offers a full range of acting, directing, design, technical theatre, stage management and theatre history courses. As a theatre major, you can build a tailored path of study that reflects your passions.
You’ll get hands-on experience, too. At Alma, we put on four productions each year, including a student-run festival. And in our spring term classes, we’ve traveled to New York and London, performed operas and conducted intensive stage combat workshops.
Our theatre and dance facilities include two performance spaces and a dance studio. We also have an on-site design studio, scene shop, costume shop, dressing rooms and a makeup room.
What You Need to Know
Our program serves as excellent preparation for advanced training and study for careers in all areas of theatre. Our alumni have gone on to work as professional actors, directors and educators. Others pursue positions in technical production, set design and more.
While acting is a competitive field, opportunities are growing. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that the number of individuals employed as actors will increase by 8% in the next eight years — outpacing the national average of 5%.
