What can I do with a major or minor in Educational Studies?

• Work with youth organizations, child care and after school programs, youth ministry, youth services, and educational institutions such as museums. Consider adding a related disciplinary major or minor.
• Attend graduate school programs in related fields for which education is an appropriate field of study but for which teacher certification is not required, such as school psychology, counseling, or educational policy. Check potential graduate programs for requirements.
• Attend graduate school in any field and benefit from the experience and knowledge of teaching and learning when seeking teaching assistantship positions. Consider a second disciplinary major that you are interested in pursuing further.

Advising and Internship

Educational Studies majors are advised and supported in ways that help them complete their program in a timely fashion. For example: of those students who graduated with an Educational Studies major from 2014-2018, almost 70% graduated in four years or less and all graduated within six years. Many of these students also had a second major or minor.

Those pursuing an educational studies major complete an internship that becomes an important part of their program, linking coursework and work experience in ways that meet their personal interests and career goals.

Recent and planned student internships include: school speech and language, outdoor education, guidance counseling, applied behavior analysis, early childhood teaching, foster care/child protective services, occupational therapy, museum curation, camp counseling, zoo education programming, student ministry, and probate court.
