Assistant Director – Diversity & Inclusion

POSITION SUMMARY:

The individual in this role coordinates monthly cultural programs and heritage month events and serves as a resource for our diversity student organizations. The coordinator works with our broad population of students but has a particular focus on first generation, economically disadvantaged and LGBTQ+ students, and students of color. This role oversees the day-to-day operations of the King Chavez Parks (KCP) Mentor Program and Campbell Scholars (CS) Program. This person serves as an academic counselor who works closely with students enrolled in the KCP and CS program.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED:

This position reports to the Director of Diversity & Inclusion.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Coordinates monthly cultural programs and heritage month events including Diversity Dialogues, MLK Week, LGBTQ+ Awareness Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, Native American Heritage Month, Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Asian American Heritage Month.
• Oversees the day-to-day operations of the King Chavez Parks (KCP) Mentor Program, Campbell Scholar (CS) Program and Chatman Living Learning Community.
• Works closely with campus partners including Admissions and the Financial Aid Office to identify and recruit students who are eligible to enroll in the KCP and CS program.
• Works closely with Academic Support & Career and Personal Development to provide additional outreach to all students of color, including those enrolled in KCP and CS programs.
• Assists the Director of Diversity and Inclusion with the reporting of the KCP grant and other grants which serve first generation and economically disadvantaged students and students of color.
• Partners with Assistant Director of First Year Engagement to coordinate pre-orientation activities for students of color.
• Provides guidance and support to Diversity Student Organizations.
• Serves as a member of the Retention Team and Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Board.
• Represents the KCP and CS program at campus recruitment/orientation/retention events including Tartan Day, New Student Orientation, Becoming A Scot Day. In the absence of the Director of Diversity and Inclusion represents the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree.
• An understanding of key needs of first generation, economically disadvantaged, LGBTQ+ students and students of color in higher education.
• Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Highly collaborative work style.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• A master’s degree in a relevant field.
• Experience in a small liberal arts college setting.
• Programming experience.
• Evidence of significant relevant knowledge of trends in diversity and inclusion, student success programming, and academic advising.
