I am passionate about dance’s transformational power in non-traditional environments and the meaning it provides in people’s lives. Since 2011, I’ve developed numerous community dance projects with university students, adults in community mental health, senior citizens, and incarcerated youth.
As a choreographer, I collaborate with dancers to integrate community narratives and local histories around social issues and transformative justice, including issues of climate change, incarceration, and the Flint Water Crisis.
I have over a decade of professional performance experience and currently perform as a company member with Límon-based modern company Detroit Dance Collective (DDCdances) and with singer Tunde Olaniran, touring nationally and internationally in England and France.
As a dance educator, I draw on Feminist, Pragmatist, and community-based pedagogies for a student-centered approach that connects to students’ lived experiences. Following a decade of lecturing in dance at University of Michigan-Flint, I am currently a Visiting Assistant Professor of Dance at Alma College in Alma, Michigan.
