Provost's Office
The Provost oversees the academic programs of the college, shapes the teaching and learning environment at Alma in collaboration with faculty, and fosters a rigorous learning environment. Additionally, the Provost’s Office inspires high-quality scholarship and creative activity, promotes intercultural and global engagement, and supports a transparent and fair governance system.

Academic Honors
As a liberal arts and Phi Beta Kappa institution, we encourage and reward interdisciplinary exploration and achievement throughout the student experience. Whatever your passion, opportunities exist to stand out and shine.
The Andison Center for Teaching Excellence
The Provost’s Office works to support faculty through the Andison Center for Teaching Excellence, funded through the generosity of the late Thomas K. Andison. A longtime board member and friend of Alma College, Andison believed that excellent teaching is the foundation of an Alma education.
Over the years, the Andison Center has supported a wide variety of professional development activities, including but not limited to the support and mentoring of new and early-career faculty members, faculty participation in on- and off-campus workshops to explore new pedagogical approaches, and collaborative efforts to create supportive learning environments.
Also of note is the ever-popular Friday Forum Series, where faculty gather to hone their craft, celebrate their work, and strengthen their commitment to a common goal of educating students who will think critically, serve generously, lead purposefully, and live responsibly.
Institutional Review Board
The Institutional Review Board (IRB) works with the Provost’s Office to provide oversight on research involving human subjects and ensures that guidelines are followed that protect the rights and safety of these subjects. The Alma College IRB must review and approve any formal research study involving human subjects before the study begins.
It is the responsibility of the IRB to oversee the protection of the rights and safety of research subjects. The board reviews all proposed studies in order to ensure that research is conducted at Alma College, or by college personnel, in a manner consistent with the principles of the Belmont Report and all applicable laws.
If you have questions regarding the IRB, please review the policies and procedures for more detailed information.
