The Special Education endorsement is a K-12 teaching major that is completed with an elementary or secondary education major.
In the classroom
As an elementary or secondary teacher candidate seeking a special education endorsement, you’ll have at least three special education classroom experiences prior to student teaching. These build sequentially, based on program levels, allowing you to develop and refine your professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions as you progress through the program and prepare for student teaching. In addition, third year special education courses are taught at the local elementary school to integrate 30-60 minutes of clinical experience per week working with local students with the supervision of Alma faculty. Our local partnership support gives up opportunities beyond measure!

Experiential Learning
Service learning opportunities include working with the Honorable Kristin Bakker, Gratiot County Juvenile Court Judge and her staff to create and teach PBIS lessons to students from the Gratiot County Juvenile Court System.
You will also have opportunities for international teaching experiences through Spring Terms, and P-Global and Venture Grants.
The Michigan Future Educator Fellowship offers up to a $10,000 scholarship to as many as 2,500 future educators every year.
