POSITION SUMMARY:

Alma College Department of Theatre and Dance seeks applicants for a full-time lecturer in Dance to begin August 2024. Experience teaching advanced physical practice classes rooted in American modern dance and contemporary floorwork is required. The ideal candidate will also have demonstrated experience adapting their physical practice research for a range of experience levels including beginning dancers. Candidate must have experience choreographing group dances and be prepared to create at least two works for Alma College Dance Company throughout the 24-25 school year. Additional expertise in at least two of the following areas is required: Dance History, Dance Criticism, Pedagogy, and Community Dance Practices. The normal teaching load is six courses per year, split between Fall and Winter semester and sometimes the focused one-month Spring term. The selected candidate will support recruitment efforts and audition events throughout the year.

This is a full-time lecturer position with a yearly, renewable contract based on performance and college need. Employees are eligible for full benefits.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

An M.F.A. in Dance with professional and/or academic experience is required.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience working with underrepresented, first-generation, Pell-eligible, and diverse populations.
