Nursing

Learn how to provide safe, effective, evidence-based care.

In Alma’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), you’ll build a cross-disciplinary foundation in the sciences and humanities. Then, you’ll put your expertise to the test through hands-on learning and clinical placements.

  • You’ll study fundamentals in biology and chemistry — learning to create connections between the disciplines on which medicine is based.
  • You’ll take practical and theoretical courses in nursing, along with integrative physiology and health science, psychology and healthcare administration. You’ll also dive into fields like history, political science and philosophy, where you’ll develop the critical thinking, communication and leadership skills you need to thrive in work and life.
  • You’ll learn from accomplished faculty who share a passion for respectful, compassionate patient care. And you’ll apply everything you study in the classroom to practicums, laboratory work and clinical placements at home and abroad.
  • You’ll graduate ready to take the next step in your nursing career: the NCLEX exam.

Student & Alumni Spotlights

No one describes the Alma experience better than those living it. Explore their stories, in their own words, below.

The field experience is hugely beneficial for my future career and I really enjoy it in the moment. Not many undergrads can say that they know exactly what they want to do and have the skills to do it, but I do.

Explore the Curriculum

Learn more about the fundamental courses that will offer a roadmap for your academic growth and expertise development.

Get hands-on experience.

With a bachelor’s degree in nursing, you’ll have all the benefits of a broad liberal arts education while gaining the hands-on experience you’ll need to thrive in a clinical environment.

In your junior year, you’ll hone your skills in a global community health course. In your Spring Term, you’ll travel to a country like Costa Rica, Peru or Ecuador. There, you’ll live in the community, working in a local clinic and caring for underserved populations, exposing you to new perspectives on health care and resources in other cultures.

Simulation Lab on Campus

In our state-of-the-art simulation lab, which we share with MyMichigan Health – Gratiot, you’ll practice physical exams and health assessments on high-fidelity simulation manikins. You’ll develop skills in venipuncture, intravenous therapy and wound care, learning from experienced nursing trainers. And, thanks to your practical experience, you’ll become competent at delivering high-quality treatment in a fast-paced environment, adapting quickly to changing patient needs.
