In case you missed it, the long-awaited 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is open as of Sunday, Dec. 31. Here are a few things you should know as a student or parent as you enter FAFSA season:
You need a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID
In order to file your FAFSA, both students and parents must have a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID. This account will give you access to complete your application and will allow you to track the status of the aid you are eligible for. We recommend you register for your FSA ID as soon as possible to ensure you are on the right track for receiving aid. If you already have a FSA ID, be sure your login information is up to date.
The earlier you file, the better
With the changes made to the FAFSA application, we anticipate delays as our offices and the Federal Department of Education navigate the updates to this process. We recommend you file your FAFSA as soon as possible as you may receive word on the status of your application a bit later than you normally would.
