Build a personalized path of study.

The American Studies minor is designed to expose you to a variety of perspectives on American culture. Because of the expansive nature of the subject, you’ll have the opportunity to tailor your study to your interests.   

If you are fascinated by popular culture, you can choose courses in art history, English and communication. If you are passionate about social justice, you can opt for electives in sociology, political science and economics. Or, if you are curious about the role of religion in America, you can select courses in religious studies and history. 

What You Need to Know

The versatility of American studies means it pairs well with a broad range of majors. This can open the door to careers in various sectors such as education, research, cultural institutions, government, non-profit organizations, journalism, media production and more.  

Some students go straight on to work after graduation, while others pursue graduate-level study in the subject.
