Assistant Director for Career and Personal Development

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director for Career and Personal Development creates and oversees programs that support the career and vocational exploration of students at Alma College. The assistant director is responsible for programming that will provide meaningful opportunities for students to engage in individual reflection and with faculty, mentors, employers, and alumni to encourage their career exploration. Specific responsibilities include supervising a team of Career Peers, planning events to support career exploration, and supporting on-campus employment.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED:

This position reports to the Director of Career and Personal Development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Supervise and train a team of student Career Peers to conduct resume and cover letter review, interview preparation and other professional development, as needed.
• Provide direct support to students through individual career coaching sessions.
• Coordinate on-campus student employment postings and collaborate on the implementation of the First Year Work to Earn Program.
• Provide oversight for the First Destination Survey, an annual survey of graduating students.
• Organize and host events that support student’s career exploration and professional development, including events with a focus on support students in individual majors or with identified social identities.
• Serve as the campus administrator for Handshake and PathwayU.
• Liaison with the First Year Seminar Faculty to develop resources that support vocational exploration in the First Year Seminar course.
• Serve on divisional and college committees as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Previous higher education experience preferably with career development.
• Demonstrated experience in program/event planning.
• Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Extraordinary ability to organize, prioritize, and multitask.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to follow through and meet deadlines and budgets.
• Ability to work weekends and evenings as needed.
• Ability to handle confidential information.
• Commitment to the mission, vision, and goals of Alma College.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Walking.
• Sitting at a desk for up to 8 hours.
• Lifting up to 20 pounds.
