Coordinator for International Student Engagement

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Coordinator for International Student Engagement creates and oversees programs geared toward international student onboarding and integration into campus life. The coordinator is responsible for programming that will significantly enhance the international student experience. Specific responsibilities include new international student orientation, annual campus cultural events, advising the international club and support for immigration procedures and regulations.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Assistant Vice President for Student Success

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide high-contact support to all international students to assure student success, help navigate the college experience, and facilitate a sense of belonging.
  • Organize international undergraduate orientation programming (e.g., airport pick-ups, arrival support, onboarding activities, adjustment to US culture, social and educational programming).
  • Identify students of concern and make appropriate referrals; monitor progress and conduct follow-ups.
  • Continue and create new campus events that highlight different cultures (e.g., international bazaar and international food festival).
  • Co-advise the International Club.
  • Collaborate with academic services to assist new and returning international students with their academic success and access to resources.
  • Serve on student success team to support any international students at-risk for social, academic, and other concerns.
  • Work in partnership with the Student Engagement and Diversity & Inclusion Offices to develop on-campus programming.
  • Coordinate host family program for new international student during holiday break.
  • Serve as a Designated School Official/Alternate Responsible Officer.
  • Recommend and establish policies, procedures, and trainings related to international student CPT, OPT, and on-campus employment.
  • Serve on Alma College committees, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Previous higher education experience preferably with international students.
  • Demonstrated experience in program/event planning.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Extraordinary ability to organize, prioritize, and multitask.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow through and meet deadlines and budgets.
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings, as needed.
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and goals of Alma College.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Walking
  • Sitting at a desk for up to 8 hours
  • Lifting up to 20 pounds
