Assistant/Associate Professor of Biology

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Biology Department at Alma College seeks a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant or Associate Professor, to begin fall term, 2024. The department would be particularly interested in individuals who specialize in mammalogy or another area of animal biology that would be conducive to engaging pre-vet and organismal biology students. The ability to offer field-based experiences that would contribute to both the Biology and Environmental Studies major curricula is also desirable. The ideal candidate would be able take advantage of the Alma College Ecological Station, a 200+ acre property with woodlands, wetlands, a glacial kettle lake, and a teaching/research facility.

TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching responsibilities will include animal biology (introductory course for majors), evolution, animal behavior, and one or more upper-level courses in the applicant’s area of expertise. Teaching first year seminar or another course that contributes to the college’s general education curriculum is also expected. Candidates should be committed to experiential learning for undergraduates, continuing scholarship, and institutional service. A full-time teaching load is six units per year, which is typically three to four courses with labs. Salary, benefits, and support for professional development are competitive. A Ph.D. or equivalent is required for appointment; postdoctoral experience is preferred. ABD candidates who will complete their degree by the start date will also be considered.
